MORE THAN 100 EXPERTS AND GUESTS GATHERED AT THE FIRST SEMINAR OF THE “VSCE BUILD NEXT 2026” WORKSHOP SERIES
Yesterday afternoon, April 23, at Thuy Loi University, the Vietnam Society of Civil Engineering successfully organized the thematic seminar “Carbon Management for Green, Smart Cities & Green Buildings” in both in-person and online formats.

The event attracted more than 100 delegates, bringing together a network of senior experts and leading business executives from Vietnam, the United States, and South Korea. Beyond providing practical solutions to address challenges surrounding carbon credits and green finance in the Net-Zero era, the seminar also marked a perfect starting point and an impressive opening for the long-term strategic series “VSCE BUILD NEXT 2026” — aiming to drive innovation and shape a sustainable future for the construction industry.
Opening the discussion session, Mr. Tran Dinh Tung, President of VSCE, emphasized that the new generation of construction engineers possesses tremendous potential for development. Engineers today are not only responsible for constructing buildings, but also carry the mission of shaping a greener future. To lead the future, engineers need to equip themselves with five core competencies:
- Deep expertise & sustainability mindset
- Digital capability (proficiency in BIM, Digital Twin, and AI applications in management)
- International competency
- Green ecosystem competency
- Self-leadership & innovation mindset
Throughout the seminar, delegates gained access to a multidimensional solution framework that closely connected Vietnam’s current realities with international macro-level lessons. From the perspective of green building development, the presentation by Mr. Douglas Lee Snyder, Executive Director of the Vietnam Green Building Council, provided investors with valuable insights into the LOTUS certification standards. Expanding to the urban planning scale, Dr. Yun Jinsung, Senior Researcher at the Korea Real Estate Board, shared practical experiences in smart urban management. These discussions laid important groundwork for Vietnamese businesses and policymakers to effectively integrate low-emission infrastructure and gradually master greenhouse gas control mechanisms aligned with international standards.
The event also announced a proud milestone as Vietnam entered the Top 10 global LEED green building markets for the first time in 2025. With approximately 2.6 million square meters of certified floor area and around 100 projects, alongside remarkable growth in industrial manufacturing and warehousing, LEED certification is increasingly affirming its role as a powerful tool for businesses to strengthen ESG credibility and attract investment capital.
One of the event’s most significant highlights was the Strategic Partnership Signing Ceremony, marking stronger collaboration among reputable multinational organizations. During the ceremony, the cooperation agreement between VSCE and VGBC officially opened a new chapter in promoting green building standards and preparing future generations of engineers for sustainable development. At the same time, the agreement between REB and the Institute of Strategy and Policy on Agriculture and Environment established an important collaborative framework for sharing expertise in low-emission urban planning and management. These internationally significant partnerships clearly demonstrated a collective commitment to driving innovation and creating a solid foundation for the industry’s long-term strategic vision.
